Good Morning to all:
I want to show everyone these photos I received this week from my good customer Judy Bryant, these are her Grandchildren in their beautiful smocked outfits all ready for Christmas. I would love to receive your photos of the items you have smocked and I will share them on the web site.
Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving, the Condrey House was filled with the sounds of our 3 Grandchildren laughing and having loads of fun. We are so Blessed and have so much to be Thankful for.
I will be out of the shoppe starting today and returning Dec. 9th. Nana and Granddaddy are taking Ashlyn age 7 and Elise age 5 to Disney World. We have been looking forward to this trip for a long time and now it is time to leave. I hope to return all refreshed and ready to start on Easter orders. I am not sure that this trip will be a rest of any kind but it will be great to spend time seeing Disney through the eyes of my precious Granddaughters. They grow up so fast and the day will come when spending time with Grandparents will not be what they want to do. So fun for now and I hope to post some photos when I return.

Monday 10-26-09

This Swing Top & Pants was made for a customer but I wanted all to see how creative customers are with their orders. It first I could not vision using these colors together but as the outfit was coming together I saw the fun in using Sage corduroy piping on Candy Pink Corduroy collars and cuffs. The Top is made out of White Pique with the pants, collar and cuffs in Candy Pink Corduroy. I think this suit turned out really cute, hope the customer feels the same way when she receives the order, I am sure she has the perfect design waiting to be smocked.
Hope you all have a Great Monday this last week in October.

10-7-09

Good Morning,
I am so excited about a new product we now have in stock. Have you had stains like baby formula that is now on your favorite smocked garment or those yellow age stains on antique linens and yellowing on a Heirloom Gown? We now have Sodium Perborate in 8 oz. containers that sell for $8.00. Sodium Perborate is a white, odorless, water soluble chemical whitening agent. You can soak your items in a bath of Sodium Perborate and these stains will disappear. I soaked my Christening Gown used in 1951 in a bath of this whitening agent and both of my Granddaughters wore the gown and it was as white as the day it was purchased. If you would like to order a 8oz. container just call Susies Ready To Smock.

Oct. 2 2009

Good Morning,
I wanted to show this Swing Top & Pants made with white broadcloth for the top and Turquoise Corduroy for the pants and piping. Simple but so many possibilities.
The saga of the Postal Service is over, after 9 days and a trip to New Hampshire the box was delivered to the Alabama address on Thursday. If the box could only talk and tell me what happened.
I hope you all have a great first weekend of October and good luck to all teams you may be cheering for this weekend (Auburn for me).

The saga continues with the postal service, but I am delighted to inform you that the box has made it back to the south. It was scanned yesterday at the Birmingham sorting facility, we will wait and see where it travels next.

Just an up-date on my lost box, the postal service is showing it was sorted in New Hampshire on Monday morning, no new update today. I will keep you posted on the travels this box is taking.

New Smocking Plate

Good Monday Morning to each of you. I wanted you to see this new smocking design from Ellen McCarn, its called Christening Day and is suitable for a Yoke or Bishop. The Yoke design has 6 rows of smocking and the Bishop design has 6 rows but would need 7 rows of pleating since the design comes below the 6 th row. This is perfect for our Christening Gown and for the smaller sizes of the Lacy Bishop and I love how it is shown with Ecru smocking on the white dress. I love White and Ecru together on the Lacy Bishop and the Christening Gown. Thank You Ellen for this design, its like she designed these designs just for us. There are 3 designs shown on this plate so when you purchase is smocking plate you will be receiving 3 different designs.
I have been waiting for a Priority Mail box to arrive in Jasper Al. shipped from Birmingham Al. going to one of my seamstress so she could construct the garments. The travel time by car would be one hour but our Postal System has missorted the box and today it was processed through a facility in Nashua NH. This is the same government that wants to run our health care, so much said for that. I can only apologize but the delays this will cause to the ten garments in this box that I know my customers are waiting to receive. Now I will wait and see what part of the United States the box will go next. I am sorry to start your Monday off with my problems, and I know we are all human and make mistakes but really New Hampshire??????
I will let you all know when my box makes it back to Alabama.

Brings Back Memories

This little Yoke Dress brings back memories of my little girl and even photos of myself when I was young. The basic little plaid school dress, we all had one. Back in the old days we wore dresses to school everyday (no pants in the 50's). This Yoke Daydress is made with the Royal Stewart tartan, this plaid has all primary colors.
Hope you all have a Blessed weekend.

New Check

Red/Black with a Off White Background is how I would describe this small 100% Pima Cotton check from Fabric Finders. I picture this fabric being used for Boys Overalls and Yoke dresses for the fall and winter months. I have put this fabric up against White Broadcloth and Rice Broadcloth and it blends with both if you need a insert. I know the colors will be good for all my Georgia Fans. The number on this check is T-25.
Please check the shipping time on orders you place, due to the amount of garments to be constructed we are running a little longer. Please remember each item is cut and made to your order no cookie cutter production, each item is special.

Swing Top & Pants

Good Morning to all, this morning I wanted to show you this cute Swing Top & Pants that one of my customers just ordered. The pants are made with Purple Corduroy and the Top is made up in Grape 1/16th gingham with the collar to match the pants in purple corduroy. I really like this look and it will be great for the up-coming season. The Swing Top has the center front pleating and can be smocked really fast, so be thinking of this style for your little girls.

Ellen McCarns new design

I am so happy to see Ellen's new designs. This smocking design only has 5 rows which is perfect for the inserts in our Bubbles and Rompers that only have 5 rows of smocking. How nice to have a design which requires the amount of rows you have in your garment. The Bishop style on this plate will be great for our Daygowns, the 3rd design is perfect for sleeves. This plate will be on of those that you go to often when you are looking for a smocking design.
I hope all of you who live in the South are getting ready to board the Ark, Rain Rain please go away.

New Fabric

I really like this new check from Fabric Finders, the number is T-44. The colors in this 100% Pima Cotton will match Lime Corduroy & Lime Pique, Colbalt Pique, Periwinkle Corduroy and Royal Corduroy, Plus these shades in Broadcloth. This will be a good fabric for all seasons, if you use it for a lining or for the whole garment the colors are fun and brite. I will post more fabrics later.
I can not tell you how much I like Ellen McCarns new smocking Plates, I will see if I can post them to my site.

New Fabric

I attended Fabric Market this past Sunday and found this check T-22 that matches the Blue version T-20. The Blue T-20 has been such a good check to use in every style. Now we will offer both the Pink T-22 and the Blue T-20, I know the Pink will be as popular as the Blue has been. I can just see Brother/Sister outfits using these fabrics.
I also ordered Ellen McCarns new smocking plates, and I am so happy to see two of these new smocking designs are small designs which have 5 rows which will be perfect for our inserts used in the Yoke Bubbles and Rompers. You can view Ellens new designs on her web site.
I will be showing the other fabrics purchased at Market in the next few days. If you would like to have swatches of these new fabrics let me know.

Happy 4th of July

I can not believe that it is July 1st already I hope everyone is having a good Summer and praying for all to have a safe and fun 4th of July.
It is not to early to start thinking of Fall and the Holidays. I know it is very hot outside but we all know the cooler air will be here before we have time to think about it. So lets all start looking ahead to the smocking we need to have finished in time for those school pictures and holidays that are just around the corner. Fall Football games will also need those school colors with smocking designs for your favorite school teams.
So enjoy this Holiday weekend and keep cool and safe.

Rain Rain Go Away

My question today is when will the rain go away? What happened to the April Showers bring May Flowers? All this rain means we can spend more time indoors smocking. The garment I am showing today is the popular Yoke Bubble, this comes in a boy style and a girl style in sizes 6 mos., 12 mos., 18 mos., and size 2. The boy style has cuffed sleeves and the girls have a elastic sleeve. With only 5 rows of smocking these Bubbles can be smocked in a few days or maybe a few hours. Bubbles are perfect Baby gifts for when you want that special gift. Most customers put a white insert for smocking but we can make the insert the same color as the garment. With white inserts we will make the collar white to match with piping to match the garment color. Just let me know how you want your Bubble to look and we will make this garment accordingly.

May Day

Today I would like to share with you one of our Daygown styles. This sacque comes in three sizes, newborn, 3 mos & 6 mos. The Sacque offers long sleeves but you can request for the sleeves to be short. The sleeves are finished with elastic and a ruffle. You will have 5 pleated rows in the center front with 2 rows over the sleeves and back. This gown comes with a draw ribbon at the hem. Daygowns are offered in all batiste fabrics. This sacque is just one of the 3 Daygowns we offer. Perfect for the new baby, great for Baby Shower gifts.
I hope everyone has a May filled with many May flowers and happiness.

What has happened to Spring?

MY QUESTION IS WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO SPRING? SNOW FLAKES IN APRIL, THIS IS JUST NOT RIGHT. SOME PEOPLE TELL ME THIS IS BLACKBERRY WINTER, BUT WHATEVER IT IS I AM READY FOR WARM WEATHER.
THE BACK WRAP JUMPER THAT I AM SHOWING TODAY IS MADE WITH RIPPLESPUN SEERSUCKER PLAID. LIME GREEN, HOT PINK AND TURQUOISE COLORS GIVE YOU VARIOUS CHOICES WHEN PICKING OUT SMOCKING PATTERNS AND THREAD. I SEE FROGS AND FLOWERS SMOCKED ON THIS WHITE INSERT USING THE COLORS IN THE PLAID FOR MY SMOCKING. I AM SURE EACH OF YOU SEE OTHER CUTE SMOCKING DESIGNS THAT WOULD LOOK GREAT FOR SPRING AND SUMMER. SINCE THIS FABRIC IS A SEERSUCKER YOU WOULD HAVE TO USE A INSERT, YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SMOCK ON THIS FABRIC.
I HOPE EACH OF YOU HAVE A BLESSED HOLY WEEK .

Will Spring ever arrive?

My question is will Spring ever arrive? More storms today and then another cold front changing the weather again next week to colder temps. But even when the weather is unpredictable we can still do our Summer smocking designs. The fabric shown is Fabric Finders #S42 Seersucker. These colors are perfect for all the Watermelon smocking plates. The pink and green are just the right colors, you will need a white insert for the melons and I have only seen it made up in a Back Wrap Jumper so far. So lets get smocking for all those cute Summer time garments.

Thursday 3-12-0

I am so sorry that I have not written on this Blog since February, but it is busy here getting Easter Orders out. I know you would rather have me sewing than writing on a blog.
Please check the web site to see that the fabric you want is still available, if you have old swatches please remove Harpeth Hall, Regatta, Hot Pink Floral #822 & #826 Blue Floral. These are all out of stock. I will have items removed from the web site when the fabric is gone. We are having some Dye Lot changes also, the new bolt of Pink Blush is different but I hope that in about 6-8 weeks Spechler Vogel will have the old color of Pink Blush back.

2-20-09

Good Morning to all:
Only 5 days till Ash Wednesday and that will mean we have 40 days till Easter so I know we are all busy sewing and smocking. It will be such a pleasure to see our little ones wearing beautiful new garments made with loving hands.
I received a shipment of fabric yesterday from Spechler Vogel and I noticed that the Pink Blush Batiste was a different shade from the bolt I have on hand now, so I e-mailed Jeff at Spechler Vogel and his reply was that a different dye lot will be here in 6-8 weeks and he was sorry for the inconvenience that this color may cause us. It is only a shade more pink than what we have been receiving but I will have to keep this bolt and use it until Spechler Vogel gets a new shipment of Pink Blush Batiste in stock. Pink Blush Batiste is such a pretty soft baby pink and we use so much of this fabric and the new bolt is just a little more pink, most people will not notice the difference but if you have a garment made in Pink Blush and want to match it with another one then you will see the change.
I hope you all have a Great weekend and I look forward to hearing from each of you.

Good Morning

Good Morning to all,
I was very sadden yesterday to receive a letter from Creative Needle Magazine making the announcement that the Nov/Dec 2008 was their last issue. This beautiful publication has done more for the smocking business than anyone gave it credit for. Over the past 20 years Ann Henderson has put her life into this magazine making it the very best that the needlework consumer could ever ask to read. Her hard work showed in every issue from the photos of beautiful children wearing smocked garments to the helpful articles teaching us new techniques in our handwork. I know I will miss this coming in my mailbox and the smocking world will miss this publication also. This shows us all that the challenging economic times are taken their toll on each and every one of us. My best wishes and prayers are with Ann Henderson as she goes through this change in her life.
Well we all have only about 7 weeks till Easter so we better get busy smocking. This is a talent that we have been blessed with and we all get so much pleasure and delight to see our little ones wearing their beautiful garments. So have a blessed and beautiful day in all the tasks you have to do.

Hallelujah!!!!!

I am pleased to announce today that the CPSIA grants a one year stay of testing and certification requirements for childrens items, the new date is 2-10-10. This will give time for reform of the bill. Jim DeMint US Senator from South Carolina will be introducing legislation this week for much needed reform to the CPSIA. He wants to allow small manufacturers to use the testing and certification that their component suppliers have done to certify that the components we use are safe from lead. This would free small business and make the fabric companies pay for the testing. You can read more about Mr. Demints legislation on his website. This makes me want to move to South Carolina.
I have Prayed day and night over this law and now I feel like a heavy burden has been lifted and I am very thankful for this new act. So I can conduct my business for another year while checking on every item that goes into making a Ready To Smock garment making sure that it is safe for children to wear without the worry of lead. The only item that I had any concern over was the metal grippers, and I will be checking into using plastic grippers in place of the metal grippers.
So lets get ready for Easter and Springtime.

National Blogging Day

Today 1-28-09 is National Bloggers Day, The Etsy forums formed this day for all to blog in and be aware of this new law. One note on a blog says it all: To The Lover Of All Things Homemade: Due to the new law you will now be given a cotton ball and instruction manual so you can make it yourself since that blanket you originally had your eye on for $50 will now cost you around $1,000 after its passed testing. It won't even be the one-of-a-kind blanket you were hoping for. So that gorgeous hand-knit hat you bought your child this past winter won't be available next winter and the same goes for any garment made for your child without going through expensive testing.
To the American Economy already struggling under an economy that hasn't been this week in decades, the American economy will be hit with the inevitable loss of jobs and revenues from suppliers, small businesses and consumers. The required testing is far too costly and restrictive for small businesses or individuals to undertake.
If this up-sets or alarms you, please react. Get Informed-Get Involved.

Tuesday Morning

What a Beautiful morning it is in Alabama, the sun is shining and it is going up into the 60's today with a cold front coming in tomorrow, so I hope to enjoy the sun today.
I hope you all will try our Baby Burp pads that are hemstitched on the edge for Crocheting. These bibs are in a hourglass shape and are perfect baby gifts. We cut out the burp pads and hemstitched them so all you have to do is crochet a pretty little edge into the hemstitch holes. We offer these in white, pink or blue flannel and we also have some printed baby flannel. I just received yesterday white diaper cloth which is perfect for these burp cloths. I have several crochet patterns that I will be glad to share with everyone. So when you finish your smocked Daygown you can crochet a Burpcloth to accompany the garment.
Have a Great Tuesday,

Many of you have ask me what is CPSIA. Let me give you a good place to go for reading what others who own small businesses are saying, www.etsy.com/forums. This site helps me since I feel like I am in the dark sometimes. I am still looking for the testing labs and will let you know what and when I find one. I am hopeful that this will be taken care of before I have to go to the expense of having garments tested.

Monday morning

As I start off this Monday Morning I am trying to look up information on a XRF gun, I have never heard of this gun before but it seems that it will be used to test garments for lead. If anyone knows where one of this guns can be located let me know. I do not think any of the fabric will have any traces of lead but the Buttons and gripper snaps may have some lead. The numbers for the lead count is 600PPM in any garment, so I will wait to see if we can find a testing facility or if possible find someone with a XRF gun.
I will not let this stop us from filling any orders and we will keep on shipping until we are told to stop. So lets enjoy today and what it has to offer each of us.

Good Morning,
The morning started off good until I was sent information about the new law CPSIA. I have never heard of this law and no-one I have talked with has either. The law is for testing all items made in homes for lead. This would mean that the fabric, thread, buttons, and any other item in the clothing would have to be tested. No mention about how to get these items tested or how the government plans on testing. You can go to www.boutiguecafe.com/home/tag/cpsia and read the blog about this issue or google H.R. 4040 or CPSIA for information. Are there any Lawyers out there that know about this? I will keep you posted on what I find out. In these bad economic times we do not need any law that will put hard working people out of business.

Good Morning

Good Morning to all, on this 7th Day of January all of us in Central Alabama are about to float away. Sure hope the rain stops soon or I will have to stop sewing and start building a ark.
While doing inventory I found Size 6 & size 7 Ecru IC double seat panties, I have only been stocking the white panties and forgot I had this in ecru. So here goes a sell, I will sell this for $1.00 each while they last, this is a $1.50 off wholesale cost. This sell is for Ecru panties only in size 6 & 7. Let me know if anyone would like to take advantage of this offer.

Good Morning,
With a new year there are changes, the first change of the New Year is that my e-mail address will change from scondrey@alltel.net to scondrey@windstream.net , Windstream has purchased Alltel and they say we have to change addresses. This means I have allot of changes to make and printing to be done.
The next change is the change in my shipping, I have been a customer of UPS since 1985 and they have had more rate changes than I can keep up with. I have started using Click N Ship with the United States Postal system and have found the rates at 1/2 the price as UPS. I will keep my UPS account but will be shipping most of my boxes by the Postal system. Priority Mail can be tracked and the cost will be less. I will charge the customer only the cost of the Priority Mail and the Postal service will send the customer a notice by e-mail that they will be getting a package from me. So I will need your e-mail address with your order for you to receive a notice from the post office. One of the benefits of the US Post office is that they supply the boxes, that is a real cost cutting item for me.
I am now on Facebook, I am not sure why but if you are on this service look me up. I would love to connect with everyone that I do business with. I am listed as Sue McNeal Condrey. Hope to see you on Facebook.

A week without a Holiday how will we cope?

Hi Friends,
A new week without a Holiday, we will have to work all week. We are ready to start the Easter season how about you?
Hope you have seen the December 2008 issue of Creative Needle. On pages 62 & 63 you will see a precious little bishop dress made up in Fabric Finders pink floral stripe. I have some of this fabric in stock but I checked with Fabric Finders and they do not have the Pink in stock but have some in Blue. I will wait to see if anyone orders this in Pink before I stock the blue. Let me know if you would like this fabric before it is gone forever. Creative Needle gives you the smocking plate with all instructions for this dress, so all you need is the dress in Ready To Smock.
Hope you all have a Great Monday and until the next post keep on smocking.
